There's a fundamental structural difference between VMware and Hyper-V. Tim Antonowicz, Senior SE and virtualization guru at Mosaic explains the difference.
This guy is totally Wrong. Hyper-V and XEN are NOT APPLICATIONS RUNNING IN THE OS!!!! Vmware is a fat hypervisor that contains a parent partition just like Hyper-V and XEN except Vmware includes the drivers with the Hypervisor. Hyper-V and XEN have drivers in the Parent Partition and the hypervisor is called a thin hypervisor. What this guy is referring to would be more like how Virtual Server 2005 or Vmware Server works.
I agree with asudbring, this guy is completly wrong. Hyper-V IS baremetal virtualization, hypervisor is bellow OS (something like ring -1).
